Dear You, Sincerely Me

Too often I find the gap between what I want to do and what I actually do get wider without me realizing it until it’s too wide for comfort. I mean to catch up with friends and family, but time marches on and it becomes apparent that catching up tends to end up a very low priority.
As a way to remedy this, I want to try to write a series of letters — both open and private.
First I want to write open letters to myself, as a means to sort my thoughts, to passively “catch people up” on what’s been going on with me lately, and as a way to leverage my blog (three birds killed).
Next, I want to write open letters to my siblings as a collective. They are some of the most important people in my life, and most of what I tend to share with them by nature tend to be worth sharing with the closest of my friends. Again, the nature of open letters allows more than just the direct recipients to benefit from the information, and I like to be a multi-bird-killer.
Lastly, I want to write private letters to people on a case-by-case basis as an expression of regret in allowing chasms of time to form between interactions, and as a reminder that I’m grateful for people’s presence in my life despite the infrequent contact.
These letters will be my mid-year resolution and one of many birthday gifts to myself. After all, it would be nice to keep to a tradition of writing to my future self and receiving from my past.
As an extra incentive for myself, I wouldn’t mind taking some new pen pals (either digital or analog) as well; so if you’d like us to write each other, let me know. :)
